THE BOTTLES

The first step is to get the bottles. You can use plastic bottles or glass bottles for your message in a bottle invitation. We bought our bottles from bottlemeamessage.com
7 inches tall plastic bottles in bulk to save some money. The wedding invites were made of glass we had a small intimate wedding on the beach, just family and close friends. With a large backyard reception in my parents backyard, a tropical theme of course
The plastic bottles come with corks, you don’t need boxes to mail them. THE SAND
Sand comes with the complete kits from The Original href="http://bottlemeamessage.com/messageinabottlekit.html">Message in a Bottle shop , it is air classified and ready to be used. Best sand I have seen clean and attractive
THE PAPER
Paper can also be purchased at The Original Message in a Bottle Shop, they offer real parchment paper in golden tan, pink, lite blue or white.
BURNING THE EDGES
This is really easy, two options, 1. Take a candle, doing this outdoors is recommended or in the fireplace if large enough, simply start by lighting the edge let the flame creep along careful, blowing it out occasionally, and starting again.
2. Use one of those long firestarter lighters works like a candle but a bit more controlled. Do this outdoors.
ROLLING THE Invitaitons
Simply get a wooden dowel or a pencil and simply roll the invitation around it, secure invitation with ribbon, raffia or a rubber bands. Rubber bands come in all colors you can even use orthodontic rubber bands, the come in all different cool colors. Look online or visit a local orthodontist.
ASSEMBLING YOUR INVITATIONS
If you buy from the Original Message in a Bottle shop, the complete invitation kits come with bottle, cork, box, sand, shells and parchment paper. You can also order confetti in bulk from palm trees to dolphins to wedding bells. You can also go to Michaels, Wal mart or even a Hallmark for confetti. Browse the isles of a local party supply store as well

QUICK TIP: The amount of sand you include in your bottles affects several things. First, it greatly affects your postage! We learned this the hard way. We included almost 2 full inches of sand and paid for it at the post office. Sand is heavy! Second, it affect how wide or how long your scroll can be. While it is somewhat giving, keep in mind that the more sand you have the less room you have for the scroll to fit. Play with it and figure out what you like best. I liked more sand and in the end I agreed, but these are a few things to keep in mind.
QUICK TIP: - Do not soak your corks in water, the water evaporate into the bottle causing moisture to be stuck in your bottle, with your invitation, may not be much but can cause the invitation to fade or crack.
MAILING YOUR BOTTLES
To send the plastic bottles through the mail all you have to do is secure the cork The postage on the bottle with less than one inch of sand is around $1.64 without sand its only $1.44. Glass bottles in a box, average cost depending on sand and what you put in the box $2.79
QUICK TIP: Make a few extra! You always have someone you may need to add to the list, and we made three extras for us. One for our mantel, one for my work, and one we put into a keepsake box from our wedding to last forever.
Important - get friends and family together when you are doing these, share a bottle of wine or a pot of coffee share stories, and enjoy your time together. Before you know it the job is done and the next task for the wedding will begin.
The Original Message in a Bottle Shop - providing message in a bottle products since 1998, the first and the only original company.
